All parents are encouraged to attend a FREE Distracted
Driving Presentation at Kings Park High School this Thursday,  January 29th, 2015 at 7:00pm.  As parents,  we must model safe driving habits for our children.  Jacy Good is a national speaker, has been on Oprah and in People magazine.  Jacy was critically injured and both her parents were killed in a car accident caused by someone on their cell phone.  She now travels and has spoken in 29 states about the dangers of distracted driving.  Come hear her powerful story!  Please click here for flyer for additional information.  Grades 8-12 are also encouraged to attend this informative program.

Smithtown Central School District is proud the launch the “Mindset Parent Book Discussion” based on the book “Mindset” by Carol Dweck.  Discussions will take place once monthly beginning this January 27th at New York Avenue in room 222A from 7:30pm-8:30pm. You can RSVP by emailing Elizabeth Stein at estein@smithtown.k12.ny.us.  Please check the district’s website for more details or click here for flyer.

Parents As Reading Partners (PARP) – 2015
PARP begins next Monday, February 2nd and runs through Friday, February 13th.  If you are interested in ordering books from our guest authors, please see "Quick Links" on the right for order forms.  Tracey Delio will be presenting to grades K – 2, and Joe Shandrowski will present to grades 3-5.  Complete the order form and send into school with the appropriate payment.   Also, as done in the past, each day during PARP we will have “Guest Library Readers” join the children during library for story time.  If you are interested in being a “Guest Library Reader”, please complete the "Quick Links" form and send it into the PTA mailbox no later than Thursday, January 29th.  If you have any questions, please contact Allyson Gelfand at allysonking@yahoo.com or 631-456-1526.   Look for a “PARP Newsletter” and “Reading Log”  to come home the end of this week!!

2015 Winter Olympics - Tuesday, February 24th
Winter Olympics takes place at the High School West Gymnasium.  Grades K - 2 will participate from 6:00 - 7:00 and grades 3 - 5 participate from  7:30 - 9:00.  There is an entry fee of $5.00 for participants .  Every child will receive a bottle of water.  There is no admission fee for spectators.  The night will consist of team competition in relay style events.  This is a great time for all students to join in some good healthy fun and show team spirit.  We need adults to volunteer for each night:  to coach,  help in the locker  rooms and also to monitor  the  locker room doors.  Your child will be notified of the team name and color prior to the Olympics.  To arrange teams as evenly matched as possible, please limit team requests to siblings and special circumstances only.  If interested, please fill out this form and send it into school with the $5.00 entry fee by Monday, January 26th.  Teams must be formed well in advance.  Any questions, please contact Michelle Jurman (406-6421) or Marissa Haggerty  (516-263-874) for grades K-2, or for grades 3-5, contact Barbara DeSousa (724-0797), Jen Tepper  ( 656-0657)  and/or Monica Briffa ( 656-3040).
